Tingling or Numbness and B12 / B6 Associations
Tingling (paresthesia) can come from a compressed nerve, diabetes, alcohol, thyroid disease, anxiety hyperventilation, or medication effects. In nutrition education, vitamin B12 deficiency is classically associated with neuropathy symptoms. Vitamin B6 is trickier: both low and very high supplemental intakes appear in nerve-symptom discussions. This page is a map to those educational links, not a substitute for a neurological workup.
Non-dietary causes (don’t wait on an app)
Disc disease, carpal tunnel, stroke/TIA patterns, MS, chemotherapy, and diabetic neuropathy. Progressive symptoms need a clinician.
Associated nutrients
| Nutrient | Note | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Vitamin B12 | Deficiency education includes numbness/tingling and balance issues | /nutrients/vitamin-b12/ |
| Vitamin B6 | ODS discusses neuropathy risk with excessive supplemental B6; deficiency also exists | Prefer clinician guidance before high-dose B6 |
ODS: Vitamin B12, Vitamin B6.
Food patterns
Strict vegan diets without B12 fortification/supplementation (clinician/dietitian territory), heavy alcohol with poor intake, highly restricted eating.
How CalBuddy helps
Log meals to see whether B12 sources (animal foods or fortified products) show up. Gap glances aren’t EMG results. Keep a buddy so you don’t abandon logging while you pursue care.
