Dry Skin and Nutrient Associations (Omega-3, Zinc, Vitamins A & E)
Most dry skin is weather, hot showers, harsh soap, aging, or a dermatologic condition. Severe essential fatty acid deficiency is uncommon on varied diets. Still, educational materials sometimes associate skin dryness with low intake of essential fats (including omega-3 patterns), zinc, and fat-soluble vitamins such as A and E. Treat those as learning links, not a self-diagnosis checklist.
Common non-dietary causes
Atopic dermatitis, contact irritation, hypothyroidism, medications, and low humidity. A derm or primary-care visit beats guessing from a food log.
Nutrients commonly associated (education only)
| Nutrient | Why it shows up | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Omega-3 fatty acids | Discussed in skin-barrier and inflammation education | /nutrients/omega-3/ |
| Zinc | Involved in skin integrity; deficiency education can include skin changes | /nutrients/zinc/ |
| Vitamin A | Fat-soluble vitamin in skin/nutrition teaching; don’t megadose retinol | /nutrients/vitamin-a/ |
ODS references: Omega-3, Zinc, Vitamin A, Vitamin E.
Food patterns worth noticing
Very low-fat diets, almost no fish/nuts/seeds, or weeks of beige processed food with few colorful plants.
How CalBuddy helps
Photo-log meals; notice whether fats and varied foods appear; glance at micronutrient gaps. Moisturizer and medical care still come first for skin.
